Quote for the day...

“Design is more about observing the world around you, then about personal creativity.”

Here below is the beginning stages of design space planning... There is a Ground Floor and Mezzanine Floor.

This is still in development stage and feedback is welcome :)

Design Theory: Theory Framework

The conceptual approach to Pollen is clearly a contrasting approach... many factors as previously seen in the first presentation posters influence the approach; such as the corporate culture with self and cross polination, industrial area verses natural area, finally the target market that is directed at unskilled individuals and professional creative entrepreneurs.

The following theory framework will be studied (and case studies to follow):

  • Constructivism verses
  • Organic
  • Contrasting in a different view
  • Modular (to link back to pollen and natural connections in nature)

Design: Accomodation List

The beginning stages of layout and proximity planning starts with a well planned accomodation list...
this accomodation list below is the first development and will still need some slight changes.

Colour Palette - LOGO

The 2014 colour palette by Dulux, has produced six different colour styles for interiors...

Here below is the Margin of Proof article on Teal, Orche and Scarlet. This palette will inspire the colour choice for Pollen's logo.

Design: Site Analysis and Building Structure

Here below is my second Design Presentation. This part deals with Site Analysis, building orientation and proposed uses for the site. The structure of the building is drawn up and beginning stages of three dimensional manipulation is shown.

COMPUTERS: Challenge 2

The computer challenge continues with part 2, now taking Autocad 3D and developing the same image in 3D Max. The basic shell of the drawing is done but now to apply materials, lighting and to render the image as close as possible to the original picture.

Two week CHALLENGE COMPLETE

After lots of hard work, the two week challenge was complete for Computers, replicating an existing interior. The smaller picture is the exsiting interior and the bigger picture is the 3D done in Autocad.

Please feel free to comment on the blog :D

Theoritical Framework

Theories are formulated to explain, predict, and understand phenomena and, in many cases, to challenge and extend existing knowledge, within the limits of the critical bounding assumptions. The theoretical framework is the structure that can hold or support a theory of a research study. The theoretical framework introduces and describes the theory which explains why the research problem under study exists.

Identity & logo

The word Pollen relates back to the cross/self-pollination that the Design Centre takes on as a Corporate Culture... this word makes me think about a seed, growing and sewing which is the cycle of any flower.

This cycle could also display the Design Centre's functionality and how the individuals would come as a seed, grow and sew in a creative direction...

Here below are some ideas for the identity and logo. Critical feedback is welcome :)

Concept

The starting point of the concept is derived from the proposal which is the Design Centre...

the Design Centre targets itself at underprivileged communities and unskilled individuals who would like to acquire a creative skill. The Design Centre also targets itself at creative entrepreneurs (professionals) to rent out the pop-up shops within the centre.

The unskilled (to be skilled) and professionals cross paths through workshops, interaction of space and professionals employing skilled individuals. In a sense this has 'cross-pollination' qualities.

The second factor that adds to the concept's origin is the Marble Classic building's context. The Marble Classic building is surrounded by the valley slope, river side and industrial warehouses. The context contrasts itself as the setting is natural but has industrial structures.

The design concept in a nut shell is CONTRASTING... the contrasting of natural and industrial...
the contrasting of unskilled and professionals (just the idea)... cross-pollination being contrasted by self-pollination... joining all of these factors and interpreting them into an interior.

Cross-pollination and self-pollination is contrasted through a flower called Dandelion. The Dandelion is able to become cross-pollinated with the help of  bees (insects)... but if cross-pollination doesn't happen the Dandelion simple self-pollinates. The flower is able to do this because it has female and male organs.

In essence the Dandelion is contrasted in itself, this could become a great identity for the Design Centre... emphasizing the context, proposal and approach contrasting factors. The Design Centres corporate culture would become a system of cross/self-pollination...

... the idea of the Design Centre becoming a system of cross/self-pollination starts my name development process... names: Valley Side, River Side, Pollen, Cross Works...
